Numbers are essential for everyday life — telling your age, phone number, prices, times and dates. In British English, numbers and dates are spoken differently from American English, so it is important to learn the British way!
British people write dates as day/month/year (25/12/2024 = 25th of December, 2024), unlike Americans who write month/day/year. Phone numbers are read digit by digit: "oh-seven-seven-oh-zero..." — the digit 0 is called "oh" in phone numbers.
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to:
- Count from 0 to 100 and beyond
- Tell time correctly (including "half past", "quarter to")
- Talk about days, months and seasons
- Say your age and date of birth
- Ask and answer about prices in British shops
- Understand British money (pounds and pence)
